well im really not sure what to do.. heres the problem i have a couple of 820 motors but i will be going lipo :D hey it will be worth it i promise you..
now if i get the lipo packs i will need a 5-6s pack to get any kinda performance outta the one 820 motor that i need for a decent speed and there ent much room for those :p .. now everythin that is sold seems to balance upto 4s packs..

so if i keep the 820 motors i will need
2x 3s2p packs (peaks of atleast 100+Amps)
2x balancers
charger capable of 6s
and so the price slowly builds up...

then i have seen some of the impressive 600-700 sized motors and they run at fairly high rpm to start with so if i was to run them on 3-4s packs then they would perform well. that would mean
1x 4s2p pack
1x balancer
charger only needs to do 4s pack

my drive ratio is currently 7.38 * (gear ratio) and im looking for 40+ mph
with 20t pinion i need around 44,000 rpm on 14.8V
with a 23t pinion 38,000 rpm
for the SAME speed on the 820 motor it will take a 6s pack and 34t pinion which i feel will make everything a little hot

so i need some motors that can handle, 6.4" tyres, 38,000 rpm on 14.8V

so what do you guys reccomend ??
stick witht he 820 and pay the extra dough as it might be worth it
or
go with some other motors (please reccomend) and 4s pack

if you are going to replace your motors any way why not go brushless you should be able to hit 40 mph a little easier that way

money money money...

lipo then brushless this is the only way it can be done :(

if i may ask, what exactly are you after? i mean top-speed, or what?

40 mph and get ther as quick as possible :D
maybe i should aim for 35 mph but i will be bashing with a truck that is doing 40 anyway so wanna keep up

dual pto3016s on a 5s lipo and 30t pinions will do that...
jump to a 6s lipo and you will be near 45mph...

ok , so you would definately reccommend the 700 motors over the 820s ??

not definately, but dual 700s are better than a single 820...
also keep in mind that the particular 700s [the pto3016s] are probably the most efficient in their class, peaking at 94% and average 85% at 25amps load, thats a score that brushless can do...

ok cheers :D so low maintainance and high effeciency i might give those motors a look :D

820's are just to heavy IMO

Kosta,
Just to take this a little further...er or backwards. How would you rate the comparison of Dual s600s to a Single pto3016? I see the 3016 would have 100w less power but would it be better because of the increased efficiency? Did I mention that "YOU ARE THE MAN"

thanks for your words my friend...
the pto3016 really needs some higher voltage... second thing is that the overall efficiency will drop when using a single 3016 in a heavy vehicle... you will get wonderfull results with a dual 3016 / 5s lipo setup... expect a peak power over 1kw [1.5kw can be achieved with 6s lipo], and not bad [at all] efficiency [as far as brushed motors can do]... at such voltages, the s600s can`t be that much efficient and can`t be as powerfull as a dual 3016 setup...
but at typical voltages of 12/14cells, two s600s will outperform a single pto3016 [unless if you gear it up, and then efficiency will drop as said above]...

I must thank you again for all the info. It is very much appreciated
I wish I had the money to just buy all motors available and try them all But alas that is not the case. My wife has no clue as it is how much $$$$ I have spent over the years on this "toy". Soon I will aquire new motors and it looks like they will be the s600s. Thanks again for your exhaustive research.
