you talking about the e-revo or e-savage? I guess the e-revo. Its pretty heavy at around 9-10 Lbs. Concidering it looks to be made of plastic. it does not have big shocks or things that may make it that heavy ?
i'm so confused..............................bounce bounce bouce bounce bounce...... oooo sorry I got carried away by the bouncing boobies.
uummmmmm yeah kinda heavy for what it is. I think

would you guys think a converted GP to EP Revo would be better than this stock EP Revo?
BitHed
04-20-2008, 01:14 AM
...yeah for what looks like all plastic its pretty heavy...4-5 kg? I bet a LARGE part of that will be the big CHIP that TRAXXAS carries around on their shoulder
...i like the shape and style of it though...Nice timing with the MMM too ...

this all being said, id like to see the e savage as stock handle 6S with no mods... highly doubt either design would take that sort of abuse.... esp if it were powered with nimhs!

Well, this is Traxxas's test rig. And if I were you I'd hold on to your motherfucking hats when this hits the shelves. The electric monster truck game is over, Traxxas won unless HPI do something, something good.

I have always liked the f1 style shocks on the revo, but I would imagine it to be the akilies heal of that truck at 4 - 5 Kg! Do not get me wrong, I like the truck, infact I think Traxas do very well as far as there designs are concerned. But since my first RC car was/is a HPI I'll always have a sweet spot for HPI racing. It's a bit like Holden v Ford. Or in the US Ford v GMC
generis
04-20-2008, 12:37 PM
Notice that in the pic above the truck has steel cvd's. Another bit of weight to the rotating mass. I'd still buy one to bash it to heck. On the other note the EXarm'd cvd'd truck I'm bashing on 4s is 4.4kg RUNNING same as this e-revo with no batteries. I think the e-sav world is still looking up. Many of you have some very competitive trucks now and most of all it doesn't say traxxas on the hood.
Each brand certainly has it's own ups and downs for sure.
E-Savy_UK
04-20-2008, 12:37 PM
I spy with my little eye some thing beginnign with MMM!
I recon that as far as HPI are concerned they've done an EP version of the savage (albeit smaller scale) and and EP version of the Firestorm 10T. All thats missing from their line up is a 4wd stadium truck. Now that there seems to be a definite link up between HPI and CC and with the imminent launch of the MMM and the release of the E-revo by traxxas, id put money on an EP truck based on the Hellfire.
strada916
04-20-2008, 12:49 PM
now an E-hellfire would be nice. I would need to convince the judge and jury for that one. She dosen't know about my hobby zone park flyer or my twister black hawk. shhhhhhhhhhhh do not tell the judge and jury. its a secret.
Generis: you are right. the e-s is a heavy truck, but a e-revo weighing 4 kg and it all plastic. I would have thought an all plastic truck to be lighter than the e-s is all
E-Savy_UK: Bring it on.
Now is that a CC MMM that i spy in there ?
I guess after looking at the hellfire which I think is the revo's oppistion, it weighs in at nearly 4 kg too so maybe I am wrong.
lilredmachine
04-20-2008, 07:01 PM
Er, the E-revo is 23 inches long, compared to the what 19 inches at the most after extension e-sav. It's pretty much a 1/8th, so it's bound to be a bit heavier, it also has bigger diffs, metal tranny etc. The shocks are pretty good on the revo, certainly ain't gonna beat them off. The pushrods are far more vulnerable, run out of shock travel and the force goes through them, and they bend.
E-Savy_UK
04-20-2008, 08:00 PM
I'd a;ways presumed that the Revo was 1/8th, was only until i looked at the listings that i found it was 1/10th. always seemed bigger than the T-maxx though.
Any guesses as to why it was demo'd with a MMM and Neu setup? possible tie up for a VXL BL rebrand? or is it just co-incidence. If it is a tie up, cold make th proposition of a CC/HPI BL E-hellfire more interesting.
roadrunner96
04-21-2008, 12:45 AM
castle creations makes the MMM controller, but NEU is supplying/manufacturing the motor.
Also, I think HPI should make a larger version of their electric RS4MT, whick pretty much would be a E-HELLFIRE (except shaft driven, not belt).
BitHed
04-21-2008, 01:28 AM
...well seeing that HPI has gone with the factor BL Firestorm they COULD do a bigger vehicle in BL...be interesting to see...

i dont think i can take it i might have to go raid my savings and get the e-firestorm especially whilst my e-savage is out of action. Im stuck with only 1 working car and thats my Tl01, so no offraoding for me at the moment.
ohh well will just have to content myself with some Black Black courtesy of Bit and the superglide (which i cant test yet)
E-Savy_UK
04-21-2008, 10:02 PM
Fortuneately my E-FS is still ok and so is My EB4 S3 but alas, my e-sav is ready and waithing for the Ammo motore to be installed. Although, come the 6th of may i can forsee that all my cars will be in some state of no running or another.....
I've been working on an e-hellfire conversion. It's going quite slowly, as the upper chassis plates are difficult to design around a brushless setup. You have to pretty much ditch the upper plate to have room for anything, and this leaves the chassis weakened. I'm looking at ways to make some custom chassis braces from the shock towers to the main chassis.
It's definitely a sweet looking truck though.
I think the e-revo was a good move on traxxas part, considering the popularity of nitro to electric revo conversions. I hate to say it on this site, but my e-revo performs a lot better than my e-savage, and breaks a whole lot less.

From what I'm seeing on traxxas.com, the e-revo will have the twin titan 550 motors, and a traxxas esc. What caught my attention was the fact that this thing is waterproof out of the box. Pretty interesting.....
lilredmachine
06-11-2008, 09:15 AM
The waterproof thing will go out the window the moment you brushless it. And you amost certainly will end up brushlessing it.
I was dead set on getting an e-maxx (3905) but read horror story after horror story of the EVX2's just burning up. Causeing damage to batteries, etc. The E-revo is going to be tempting, I'm just hoping they have since sorted out the issue with the EVX2 as the same engines and esc are being used from the e-max. The only difference is that the E-revo gets a 2speed tranny.

no one has discussed the plastic chassis being weak :p
anyone have any idea what the stock revo weighs?
generis
06-13-2008, 07:46 PM
Guess I'll find out if it is weak. Just bought one to see how much I can break it on BL. I'll give you a detailed report of the bustage. I promise to be anything but gentle. Will be neat to compare the BL e-sav with it. Got to admit, I've gotten a bit fond of the BL e-sav, and know now what to do and not to in order to quit busting the diff planets (until my solution for that is done). Bet I can grenade something on the e-r in 4 packs... Naw, 3 packs. (4s)
I look forward to your opinion. The e-revo sure does looks sweet! Hopefully EVS2 issues are resolved from the e-maxx line.
roadrunner96
06-18-2008, 03:18 PM
Don't forget that the E-REVO, has a "REVERSE ROTATION" motor - thats the motor facing the front of the E-Revo. This should be a HUGE P-I-T-A for people
who need new motors - one standard and one reverse motor. But that is great because for clodbusters requiring a reverse rotation motor though.

E-revo came in, and it's gone BL and 4s already. Its not much wider than the e-sav, but WAY longer. Actually not comparable, because is definitely 1/8 scale, where as the e-sav is definitely 1/10 scale. WEIGHT:: E-sav is no batteries with all exarmed and all bl custom tray chassis and tf trays is 3790 grams, the e-revo stock with all bl stuff installed no batts is 4190. AND that is with the heavy HPI phaltline tires on the e-sav. Save another 180 grams with the stock tires back on.
More later.....

I'm adding some duplicate information here about my e-revo review so far. If some of this looks like the other post, forgive me, but it's a copy-paste for now:
.....It is a very big and very heavy truck. The problems that come out immediately is that due to the size and weight the stock motors and ESC are barely keeping up, and have meltdowns in a short time. Historically this setup also used in the newest E-Maxx is a month-long basher at best, and then will require at least new motors, if the ESC has not shorted out your batteries yet (which is also common). Some users have good results with the evx2, some not.
Next, also due to these factors, any stock e-savage truck will beat the e-revo, with same batts obviously, on all fronts of performance with the exception of cornering control, which the revo is famous for, and the e-revo is no exception to that. The e-savage also beats out an e-revo on price by typically over $100 easy, and includes batteries. To have any fun with the E-revo, we've put in $370 worth of Brushless and Li-Po equipment, and now it is blistering fast, but also with tires approaching $1k. Based solely on fun-factor alone, I'll give my vote to the e-savage with a GCM chassis over the e-revo hands down.
Here's a common E-sav setup that works well:
1- stock truck, GCM chassis, stock motors, red dot, new version of esc (comes with red dot motors), 18 tooth pinions, decent stock or better 12cells, stock tires, traxxas #4951x axle mods (stock brittle replacements)
This setup has been the longest lasting setup here (meaning GCM). Great run times, slipper clutch is tightened so that if you stand on the wheels of the truck and put in FRESH batts and slam the throttle fwd, the motors should just barely slip the clutch, but still let the motors turn a good 1/4 of the rpm of usual. (don't do this much, unless you want to melt a motor-- make sure they are cold when you do this). This setup, by the way works perfectly and does not seem to need adjustment later, but will save your axles in a good bash. Try to think of the clutch as a safety tool, and not for regular use. We have gone through 5 e-savs here, and still have 3, and NEVER melted a spur even on 4s lipo and brushless. I recommend this clutch setup.
Another common setup:
2- Full GCM equipment, 2370 Kv/rpm brushless motor, BL esc, TF trays, full exarm suspension and axles, stock tires or lrp's or kyosho rims or similar light wheel/tire combo, and 4s lipo batteries, same clutch setup as above, but 1.8 turn out on the nut from the above (save diffs)
This setup has lasted the best on the BL versions of the truck, and is a blast to drive, but is also into the sub 1k range on price. Excepting the speed, the brushed motor version above is just as much fun to drive and bash, and I personally get more enjoyment out of the option 1 when I go out to run them. Both are more fun-factor than the e-revo, but each person has their own opinion. I prefer the powerful and smaller truck than the big heavy feel of the e-revo.
The full load brushless e-sav is still over one pound lighter than the e-revo with the SAME BL equipment.
To have some fun on the e-revo you HAVE TO go BL on it with at least 4s, maybe 5 or 6s, and spend a good $400 more on it than stock. After this the e-sav still beats it on speed and launch in full trim and still has an edge on price. At this point both will be silly fast, but still with a good setup, the e-sav will be competitive in general to an e-revo, which will (due to the handling alone) pass by any e-sav at the races.
Summary:
E-sav wins:
-Price (huge, even with similar BL equipment)
-fun-factor in stock form, same batts
-speed as stock
-weight (huge, some 1.5+ lbs lighter stock)
e-revo wins:
-strong diffs, shafts stock
-nice wing (so what, really)
This looks awfully familiar. ;)

So, The e-revo had it's first casualty today. Got it out, went 7 feet, and blew the drive axle off. O well. Guess steel is the only thing that works. Plus NEVER put a set of huge HPI goliath tires on it. At 434grams each, it's just plain terrible to drive. Looks good, runs terrible. Light wheels are good. There's also a pic here of the setup I'm using... note the 2 traxxas 1522 heatsinks on the 7xl, which now is not hot anymore.. go figure....

when i pulled them out of the e-revo's batt bays they were hot. not hot enough for me to drop them but hot enough to feel them through the plastic undercarriage of the e-revo. I'm cooling them under a fan right now, so i should be good to go again today. will i have to discharge charge after the 1st run or can that wait till later? thanks for your help

run em, cool em, charge em. Dat's it.
Might want to check bat temps at 1/2 bash, just to make sure.... Blown batteries blows.

One thing for certain, that big E-Revo will really run even really high quality cells close to their limit. It's fine for them to be hot in something as power hungry and heavy as that E-revo.

So i've been running this stock e-revo now everyday twice a day and all i can say is WOW! I'm not at all afraid to bash it to its limits. Today i took it out in puddles and had a blast. i never thought taking an r/c out in water was a big deal but its a lot of fun and best part is no cleaning after.:D
I've tested the handling on "S" turns, figure 8"s, and have only flipped it twice. Once i was doing doughnuts... yes tight doughnuts on dry pavement and it eventually caught grip and rolled. Takes jumps like a champ. Fast out of the box. Smiles everyday its a fun truck! Now if only i had an e-sav again i could have the ultimate dynamic duo!

Not trying to tell you what to do with your RC, but after wet conditions the bearings need to be lubed..air compressor cleaned..batteries need to be put under a fan if they got wet. I went thru 2 7 cell Intellect packs because of wetness.
I have the E-Maxx (new one, waterproof). I rate the cleaning after wet running close to that of gas powered. All in all it takes me about 45 minutes of cleanup after water usage. If you dont clean it things start to rust, then you cant get the hex bolts out..etc etc
Wetness really lowers the life of the Titans too.

Took this beast camping an finally broke something. Do platinum revo push rods and turnbuckles fit the e-revo?

I wish I had that much time to get out and bash! Glad you're having fun and like the batteries!
Everythign about that truck is just massive, seeing that picture of it next to a fully gcm geared esavage and looking huge even still is crazy....

I just bought a E-Revo a week ago, got it yesterday, drove it twice - yanked the EVX2 and one of the servos AND SOLD IT YESTERDAY!!!!!! I don't plan on going brushless and MAN! THAT TRUCK IS BIG,HEAVY, AND SLOW!!!!!!! MY RUNTIMES ARE MAYBE 5 minutes with 2 good 7-cell 4500mah packs!!!! SUCKS!!! ordered a new E-SAVAGE to put the blue servo and EVX2 in. As compared to running same batts,ESC,and titan motors in my e-savage is awesome!!! No wonder everyone is making the e-revo brushless!!! IT SUCKS!!!!!!(out of the box) I even put stronger springs on(blue rear, silver front) and it still felt too "MUSHY". ONLY TRAXXAS would make BIGGER trucks and not update the power to push them - they should sell "700" sized motors to push the size and weight. Bigger isn't always better!!!! THE E-SAVAGE IS THE PERFECT BALANCE IN A DUAL-MOTOR MONSTER TRUCK!!!!! PERIOD.:D

HA LOL :D 5mins :D
I get 20-25 on my elite 7 cell 5000mah. great speeds and switched shocks with the ones provided in the box and couldn't be happier. its a great truck IMO. To bad you didn't have the same experience.
I think everyone is going bl. whether its an e-revo or a nitro vehicle. People are advertising their bl systems in forums cuz the e-revo's drive train is bl ready, why not try to bring it to its knees? I mean my e-sav was bl, and now i'm waiting for $$$ and slowly but surely so will my e-revo.
I'm glad you are enjoying you e-sav. That is what this hobby is all about.

I'm almost wondering if my motors were junk from the start? not alot of power (and not in training mode), and the motors did get hot quick. I cant stand the fact that you pay $450 for a electric RC, no batteries or charger, then either the ESC OR the motors are bad from the start!!!!! ITS LIKE WINNING THE LOTTERY IF EVERYTHING WORKS LIKE IT SHOULD OUT OF THE BOX!!!!!!!
E@T ME TR@XX@S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:p
OH, WELL, SOLD IT GOT A NEW ESAV!!!!!!!!!!!!

Titan motors are awful. The Revo weighs 5 kilos. Combine and they're a bit pants out of the box.
I gave in!

Hehe,
This is becoming almost viral... what is happening to our beloved little savage?
Is it just the diffs? That's really the only problem I've had with it (besides the bloody driveshafts), but I guess I've put more energy into making it tougher than it was stock.
Wait a minute... no I've broken way more than that on my stocker. Motors, arms, shafts, gears, posts, axles carriers, diffs...
Maybe catching the virus wasn't such a bad gig.

2 weeks till Koko goes BL in the revo pig.
LMAO....at Generis' comment!
Wavesport, I still think the E-savage is a great truck. I had just had an incredibily bad string of luck with damaged batteries, melted spur gears and smoked engines after 4 tries of using the e-savage and 3 failures.
I decided to give the Revo a shot and see if I have any better luck. Wish me luck, I want RC to be fun and not a disappointment. I got back into to this to relax. I love running them and working on them is great. But I'm hoping to get a full battery pack or two run through my truck before it breaks.

I vote for one of those for use during winter time (if you ever have snow, otherwise, maybe Generis will have a new need now !!!) works better than anything else on the snow, especially fresh powder with a BL setup :

Back to the E-Revo. . . Wow Koko, that E-Revo looks huge. I hope you have better luck with it, enjoy it for awhile, then revisit the E-Savage when you come to your senses. :p Just messing with you. Hopefully you will start having fun again. . .

Whoa!
Up at powder king (a couple hours north of here) I think the average is ~40 feet a year (with more than 4m base at the top of some of the surrounding peaks). Here though, I think we only average about 8 feet. :(
Edit: Just noticed, this thread passed 100 posts~!
So far so good. Ran a set of packs through it last night. I took it nice easy per the manual to make sure the brushes break in correctly. So far so good. I think that was part of my problem with the E-savage. I just went full throttle right off the bat.

And about that 'leaving e-sav' comment: just couldn't do that.. I keep coming back to it. After this build, that build, it's just too much fun to bash a solid e-sav. It's just the right size and severely overpowered on BL, what more can I ask for....

Update on that Kyosho..
I just happened to be in edmonton yesterday, so I stopped in to a little backwoods RC shop. I took a look at the Blizzard he had on the shelf and said it was regularly $419.99.... I said I wasn't interested for that price, so he said ok, today only $275... I said maybe I'd think about it and took his business card. He said the offer was no good tomorrow!!!
A little later I commented that someone I was aware of (fili) was putting a brushless system into his, and he responded... "What's a brushless"...!!!
Needless to say, although his stock looks like he'd been around for 20 years, his sales techniques and lack of knowledge might leave him stealing sales only from people who don't know any better. I hope those people find a better shop to deal with.
What is the regular price on one of those anyhow?... holy crap less than 200 bucks. What a thief.
Filibuster
08-24-2008, 12:16 AM
I paid mine $385 shipped and taxes included
I really wanted it...
Watch out, some hobby shop still sell the old model.
Mine is a Blizzard DF-300, the latest model, which is a lot better, and nice looking too...
Right off the bat, you need a better motor (read faster) and an ESC (to replace mech speed controller...) and a lot a patience since this son of a Ritch is pretty hard to trim (body)...
Here is the Forum for this little snowcat :

Is there any way you can change the page from auto loading all the videos at once? It might just be an issue on my mac, I dunno enough about webpages etc..
EDIT:
It gives me a 'please try again' message.
Ok, now I see the one at the bottom. Very nice. Lol. I really like the new editing you are doing with the pauses and captions. Very entertaining.
Is there a reason you went with the THS CVD's over the Traxxas sealed units? I haven't gone brushless yet, so I haven't yet bothered with CVD's.
