View Full Version : Holes on lower arms stripped.

I somehow stripped out the holes to mount the shocks on the lower arms. Twice now I have lost screws when the shock has come unhooked at the bottom when I was running it. Maybe its because I change them out a lot, or just have messed with it a lot, or maybe I overtightened it. I was just curious if anyone else has run into this.

I am more curious if anyone has a way around it. With the driveshaft right next to it, I cant think of everything. It would be great if I could just put a long screw straight through, but obviously I cant. I would prefer fixing it rather than getting new arms. Right now I just moved it in to the other hole, but I like the way it handles with it in the outer hole. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Awesome. Just what I needed. One question though, how do you get them off? Are the countersunk screws held in tight enough that they wont spin when you remove the nut?

...yes and no...Sometimes you get lucky and it wont spin but if you have some dcent needle nose pliers in your box then you just grab the hed and spin the nut...Do this mod once and you will end up TOTALLY forgetting about these screws so do it with GOOD screws the first time ;)

Hey bit, you got any links for those screws? I cant find them anywhere locally (I dont have many options) and I looked a little online and have come up empty.

I recently did this mod myself and being in the US metric screws are harder to come by. I used flathead machine screws, #4 x 3/4". #4 is a bit bigger than the metric M3 so you do need to run them through once (or drill it out) to open up the holes. I couldn't find any locknuts in #4 so I used a #6 which seems to stay on OK -- that's what the nylon's for... All this from my local Home Depot.

Correction: The #6 locknuts didn't quite work out. So I used the flat nut that came with the screws & put on some Loctite. Seems good so far.

...I would recommend that you use a screw and a nylock nut that are dedicated...Much less hassle...Good that you have found another method though...
