GCM Universal Motor Mount?
I've come across several forums (including this one) where someone is posting about HPI's Flux motor mount and its inability to mount other motors because of the proprietary motor casing.
Is GCM working on a JEDI type mount for the Flux that can mount various diameter motors? I noticed that generis was offering to mill the clamps, but it would be more convenient to simply purchase a new universal mount, instead of shipping back and forth. Also, once that clamp is milled, we can't go back to the HPI motor. Or what if we wanted to mount a Xerun motor?
There's a need for this universal motor mount. Is the JEDI style mount structurally flawed or something? It seems like a great piece of hardware and relatively simple to develop, but yet I don't see it in the Flux market.
Another reason why I like the JEDI style mount is that it'll be compatible with Savage brushless conversions and there's no need to purchase the Flux motor mount plate.
I know that there's a GP Savage/FLM JEDI mount, but that's designed for the E-Savage tranny, which doesn't account for the Flux's offset spur gear.

There is nothing better than HPI Savage flux motor mount..
On Jedi motor mount, holes for motor screws are cut from up to down and motor will move after some jumps and u will lose pinion to gear contact..
Also on HPI S. Flux there is no screws striping on motor or chance to overtightening the motor screws and motor is secured in fron as it is in the back !
Here i have 2 motor mounts, 1 was grinded for bigger motor...

the other reason is the weight of the motors bouncing around while bashing the truck at several G. The motor just won't stay attached in the proper positions with a couple of screws in the front end of the motor.
The problem is there are no other clamps available for different motor diameters. The universal mount would be a good idea, but not that easy or cheap, considering keeping the clamp idea like stock. It's cheaper to just mill out the clamps, or buy new set of clamps. Even for the end user.. Plus the clamps are so much better than the end mounting.

I wanted to counter your arguments with the E-Maxx and Revo BL mounting style, but when I think about it, the Flux is a lot heavier than those two and as a result, have more force during crashes/jumps. Your arguments make a lot of sense.

And you have a good point also, but take note that they have the motor SOLID mounted and the entire mount pivots for the gear settings. That's why it works for the Txs trucks. If I was to make a mount that did that, then it would work also, but then it wouldn't fit too many setups.. The thing to stay away from is the motor sliding on the same screws as it anchors with.. that's a no-no.
Fwiw, my e-revoBL weighed in at 30 grams more than my flux.. I don't think the flux is particularily heavy, really.. just the big motors and hard bashing don't go well for motor end screws! haha!

I never noticed that. I assumed it was a directly screwed in; like the Esav motor mount setup.
Hmm... I think I'm going back to something like this for my 2200kV Castle motor:
What do you think?
It's going to be a challenge to mount large diameter motors in between Savage TVPs, though.

try a small spur and a small pinion to keep the same gear ratio, then it might fit inside the plates... That style of mount would work well and if you use the 4 screws for mounting you can feel safe about it.
