Default Best combination of Rim&Tyre on DesertBoy-17 Chassis??

Hi everyone... I am an avid member on Savage central and more of a lurker on here. Thought i would start posting a little considering it looks like there are a lot of helpful people on here.

Time is fast approaching that my DB-17 TVPs for my FLUX will come through my postbox!

But i dont have any rims and tyres suitable for it.

Now after seeing the first proper vid of the truck running, you can really see how the whole truck is completely out of proportion:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSNU9...layer_embedded

I have been doing some homework to how i want the truck to look.

Either i can have standard sized wheels with a lightweight tyre and an extreme offset (1")

or

I could run a really PHAT Tyre on a big rim....

I have found weights and sizes and pictures wondering if people can give me their opinions on what would probably benefit me. I am not only looking for performance but aesthetics. (Performance comes first though)

Choice of rim:
SPI 1" offset. Lightweight. utilises standard maxx size tyre.
I would mount either: * * Imex trail dawg tyres * * * * *- *189grams * *5.74" X 3.5"
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * HPI Dirt Bonz XS Compound - 155grams * * 5.7" X 3.4"

HPI Blast. (can someone tell me if it has standard of 1/2" offset) 4.53"x2.76" dimensions.

I would mount either: * * 40 series Big Joe tyre * *- 286grams * *6.4" x 4.37"
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * 40 series Bow Tie * * * *- *172grams * *5.8" x 3.4"
* * *Possible road tyre * * 40 series road rage * * * - *188grams * *5.75" x 3.74"

SPI

HPI Blast rim

I would have inc more pics of the other tyres but i can only post 4 pics. Plus i am sure everyone knows what they look like anyway.

I know i didnt have to add all the images considering most people know what they are... But i am hoping to get more opinions and i know everyone likes pictures....

ALSO before anyone says that joes dont fit on blast rims... Here is evidence that they can.... This is pietromertabmc savage from SC. LOOKS GREAT!

I think pietromertabmc is also running a DV17 tvp kit and as you can see the, joes really suit the truck. Do you think anything smaller than a joe would look funny?

I really dont want to sacrifice much performance top speed considering i got this chassis for fast stable runs.

Please help me choose as i just dont know what to get!

Oh i run mainly on grass, hard dirt, and tarmac... but i am considering getting another set of tyres just for the asphault.

Gotta love the Rataplan nasty drag machine from the vid.
I think he's using Dirt Bonz'es there.
Dirt Bonz would be my choice,

Big Joes look give the truck a nice Monster Truck stance but 286g
I'm personally fond of the stock old school V-tread E-maxx tyres.

i may have said that once, when i said it, i did not know it was already done AND working i just did the math, to prevent someone sitting with a mismatch of parts. i did see teh later post that it was done and 'prooved'

I know! 286grams is ridiculous. I want to keep this long truck as agile as possible.

Although the joes would probably the best looking tyre suiting the massive truck, its just not a gd idea.

I like the idea of small performance wheels and lightweight tyres on an extreme offset.

I also thought the joes wouldnt fit on the blast rim. Thats what i was told before, and after comparing height and depths of each... it still seemed as if they wouldnt work, considering the blast wheel is quite narror compared to the joe yet taller than the joe. I guess with some strethching over the wheel would work... but as the wheel is so narrow, it could encourage more ballooning if the tyre was not strapped???

I may just go with the SPI wheel with a decent tyre and get some blast rims and 40 series road rage tyres... That combo should def work... right?

Also would running anything more than a 1" off set on either side be too much? or do you think it would look right considering the length?

I have finally decided to run an SPI 1" off set basher wheel (pictured above) with an HPI Dirt Claw Tire pictured below.

Heard they are a very decent off all round tire which is lightweight and although a little harder as a tyre, will also perform well on asphalt.

Just 2 more questions:

Will this tire and rim combination fit?

Is it worth upgrading the foam to a performance foam? *Or would taping the inside of the tire and the supplied foam be enough to prevent ballooning. I would be happy to spend a little and get a decent foam to go with this rim.

Thanks

To those tremor wheels u can put a lot of diferent tires...some even can be streached a bit...this is not my picture but guy on local forum posted this for snow bashing...

Dont know the weight but i think this aint that heavy..

Yes, these are 40 series and full weight was 300g on the left combo and 330g on the right.

The Flux had no problems pushing these tires.
