Thumbs up e-sav tugboat?!?

Ok, feel free to tell me I'm nuts, but I was thinking.....

I do alot of fishing and have often wished there was a way to place my bait exactly where I wanted and not just where I could cast.

solution: an r/c boat with a modded back deck that will drop/release a rig on command! I figured something sturdy and stable in the water is best. Soo...

Tower hobbies sells this:
http://www.aquacraftmodels.com/boats/aqub59-main.html

If you check the specs it uses a 550 motor and a 6-7cell battery. you guys get where I'm going with this

does anybody know about r/c boats? from this pic:
http://www.aquacraftmodels.com/boats...9xxai09l-b.jpg
I can asume that these electronics are not waterproof. also, there looks like plenty of room for my KD 650 motor and a lipo. will this work? I am not afraid to break stuff trying. maybe with my stock e-sav esc also?

with a 650 and a 5000mah 2s, I wonder if I can get it up on plane? lol

seriously though, I have been giggling about this idea like a kid for weeks. this just might happen.

Interesting concept. How much weight are you talking about it carrying and dropping?

well if the tug does the "casting" I only need enough weight to sink the bait. maybe a 1/2 ounce lead plus bait so maybe 2 ounces at best. plus it has to drag the weight of the line in the water, but I'm not modding for that. I'm modding because I can

have you ever seen a lipo tug?

You could maybe have a servo mounted in the hull with a shaft attached to it that sticks though the top. Make a small loop in the line near the weight to place around the shaft. The loop may need to be moved depending on the slope of the deck of the boat you would use so that the weight could either slide off or just drop into the water.
I know squat about rc boats but that seems like the most simple way to attach a line that can be released without having to keep tension on the line.

I wonder how fast you could get it going?

Thats what I'm saying!! only one way to find out. the vid on the website shows it gently scooting around a lake. how boring

and for the rigging this was my thought. If I was towing bait and something happened (snag, hooked a fish) it could potentially sink the boat making a solid connection to the boat a bad option.

I think a simple solution like a clothespin or some sort of spring loaded clip could hold the line tight enough to tow bait, while also working as a safety release should something happen. All I would do is give the line a slight tug to release the bait when I want.

On the other hand, if I were to lose power it might be a sweet option to just reel it in! decisions, decisions....

the canny beach fishermen where i live use a kontiki (raft with a square sail)
off the beach in offshore breeze
they use two lines (one to retrieve the raft )
and the main fishing line uses a knot around a barley sugar (boiled sweet lollie) as the timer when the water dissolves the lollie the line drops from raft and you are fishing

could work well on your tugboat and if you can see fish you can steam around and round them up

i have also been looking at jet units (for rc jet sprint boat)
very cheap and no props to get tangled in your line

But it'd be cooler to use an rc plane bomb release wouldn't it?
Maybe make the attaching loop some sort of slip knot so that it'll release if there's too much tension? Anyway you do it though, it'll be awesome seeing a tug boat flying through the water!

thats a great idea!! all I need is another servo. it would add to the "cool" factor as well.

....I think its time to start shopping...

Check this out! I found a cheaper knock-off tug, but with twin screws!

http://cgi.ebay.com/Hobby-Engine-1-3...item335f6bb801

I cant find any info or pics of the inside though. I am gonna email them for more info.

..... a twin 650 tug?!?

I also found this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/SEAPORT-WORK-BOA...item4399e0b84e

This is definetly a POS, but considering what I have planned for it, this might be my best bet. I can buy two, break one trying, and still save $$
