Default Going back to Flux. Fill me in on Lipo & chargers

Ok, in case you hadn't noticed, i've had my fill of Baja ownership these past few months. As enjoyable as its been, I can't justify spending the money to run and maintain this vehicle, so its going to someone else and im picking my 2nd Savage Flux, the updated 2.4ghz model with hopefully included bulletproof difs and updated MMM controller.

I'm a bit behind the updates and changes in regards to Lipo and charger tech. I AM NOT going to be giving SMC anymore of my money as that turned into an expensive nightmare as most of you may remember from my posts last year.

That being said, i've been looking into the Lipo's at Hobby king that peeps have been stating are great for all around performance with a much better price tag. I'm planning on starting with 2S packs again with maybe 3S later down the road. I plan on purchasing two sets of 2S so I can still have long bash sessions without paying premium for higher mAh rated lipos. Can you guys give some newer and up to date suggestions on what have been some proven and reliable 2S Lipo's that don't break the bank, but won't fry the mamba ESC?

Also, I'm not paying the premium price for chargers like I did with my Triton 2 and I can't justify spending the cost for a dual hyperion charger. I've been doing some charger research and I like the looks/performance and cost of this new one from dynamite. I'll likely end up purchasing two chargers so I can get my charging details done faster and still come out money ahead. Any one had experience or details on the pluses or minuses of this dynamite model? Or other suggestions if this one isn't worth its salt?

Thanks for helping a soon to be un-retired brushless owner. By the power of Flux!

Can I ask what happened with the Baja? From all the stuff I've read and seen, gas 1/5th is the way to go.... I've been real close to pulling the trigger and selling some of my nitros.

My 5T was alot fun, just be prepared to shell out some major cash to get it bash worthy if your hard on your stuff as well as replacement of broken parts.

Just got to the point where I was babying my 5T to prevent costly break downs and then I wasn't having fun anymore driving it gingerly. I also personally got sick of hauling that huge thing around and having fewer areas' to run it in because of the noise. Also got tired of not being able to take serious jumps without worrying of bending the thing in half.

Really? I thought they were tough as nails, knew they were expensive but didn't think you had to shell out a lot to make them bash worthy. Did you store your Baja inside (basement) or in your garage? That's what worries me about gas models, I don't have a garage just an unfinished basement... kind of worried about the vapors igniting. Obviously I wouldn't store gas in my house but there might be left overs in the tank of the model.

are you kidding? That tiny amount of gas will have nowhere to go if the tank is shut.....

Funny I have a Baja 5b and Savage Flux. I just sold off all my rock crawling stuff. Baja's are expensive, but man are they fun. I love my flux too.

I personally won't buy cheap batteries. They may be just as good as the overpriced ones. But I've run my Maxamps 2s batteries for a year and half. They balance perfectly, have unbelievable punch and discharge evenly with no spikes in voltage that fry up my esc. I firmly believe you get what you pay for.

As for chargers, your going to want to charge your batteries in sync. If you don't you stand the chance of having two batteries not working the same while running your truck. Buy a charger that at least lets you charge both batteries in sync.

here's a monster charger with 20 amps per side (2 full sides of 20 amps each) and you won't have to get another charger as long as you live.

cool charger you might liek that one, as i recall you pick rather nice/pricey batteries ? not referring to smc lousyness of cos , its the same as raytronic c60 charger. it require at least a 40amp at 13,8V supply to get to 600watts. or maybe a 28v supply is better, less heating ? it also ask some humoungous batteries.. its limited to 2 x 7S, which would do for a savage flux i guess (6s or 2 x 3s)

for comparison my imax b8 can take 8s, but only 150 watts, and with my decend priced 2s packs, thats plenty, as for cell count and watts, and im using a 30a/13,8a supply for that, with option to connect a second imax b8 and still go quadro full blown. (if i charge 4 x 5800mah on one charger, obviously the amps go down and charge time go way up)

now if one charge 2C, thats adding up..but good/pricey/quality batteries wouldnt mind that ordeal..

It will be good for the future aspect and whoa is has 3 cooling fans! would be nice if anyone could take a look at the fans. afterall it did derive from
http://www.sjproporc.com/

i think it would be best to actually use a 28v or so supply, whats the idea to tone down 110/220V to 12-13,8v? then tone up to 6s voltage? the potential of the charger would be, to be able to charge 2 x 2 x 3S (= 2 x 6S at once)

well its a lot of power in a box, and one might think about having two separate 300w chargers, or even 4 x 150w chargers, with the options that give (borrow one to a friend and such lol). im not in this case implying or suggesting anything cheap for FB, but with a 150watt charger, things peak out, right about charging 2 x 3S 5800packs in dual,

sort of like this (before any efficiency calc):

600W / 5,8A = 103V. 103V /4,2V = 24S
how about that, chargin 4 x 3s 5800mah packs at once who-hoo!
---
hey generis do you have this charger ? i think i will get another imax b8, only 40 bucks, cant trust it, but ah, cant trust much anyway tho i wish the venom charger was cheaper, good environmentally and green stuff! goes great with green gorilla snot!!!

it also looks like lipo packs are pretty tolerant, ive taken some changes and i still have my ugly face heheee!
